Gentle and nurturing postnatal massage to support your post birth recovery. Supporting the changes in the postnatal body.
I offer a postnatal massage that are based on traditional South American postnatal rituals. These abdominal massage techniques use a traditional woven rebozo to support healing and recovery in the postnatal period. The session I offer was shared by Sophie Messager and Maddie McMahon and is based on the teaching of Rocio Alarcon; an Ecuadorian shaman, healer and ethnobotanist.
Pregnancy and birth is about the body opening and becoming wider. The practice of postnatal massage supports the body to close and come together again in the postnatal period.
In many cultures around the world there is a period of postnatal recovery, which includes rest, recuperation and massage. These principles are the foundation of the postnatal massages that I offer.
What will happen when I have my postnatal massage?
Your session will involve a relaxed and informal chat so that we can get to know each other before moving onto a gentle and nurturing massage focusing on hips, abdomen and torso.
Using a shawl to rock and release the hips and lower back through gentle and soothing sifting allowing the body to soften and relax. This is followed by an abdominal, hip and torso massage which uses essential oils to enhance relaxation, deepening the relaxation.
The massage continues with a second period of sifting and rocking. The experience is concluded by wrapping and resting. Your will be wrapped supporting the feet, legs, hips, shoulder and head as you take an opportunity to rest and be calm.
You can decide when you are ready to be unwrapped, there is no time pressure here, simply allow yourself to rest and feel peaceful, warm and calm.
At all times you are in control of the intensity, pace and strength of the postnatal massage and length of the rest period.
It is more than a physical experience
You have the opportunity to focus on your own wellbeing and take some time out from day to day life to relax. Many find the experience restorative, meditative and warming. It can be an opportunity to reflect on your journey in a safe space.
This experience is not just for the immediate postnatal period, and you may benefit from at any stage of life where you feel nurturing care is required.
It can be healing for those who have experienced loss or trauma and may need the opportunity to reflect and explore their feelings.
The session will last approximately 2 hours and will take place in your own home. Babes in arms are welcome. I will bring everything needed, my only requirement is a space to work with you. Prices starting at £70 dependent on location.
“What a wonderful experience. Donna is such a warm and friendly person, really makes you feel at ease. She explained all about her training and you can see how passionate she is about what she does.
The treatment was so relaxing. I really enjoyed it.
Bonus that she left a bottle of the oil used with me. Smells amazing!
Cannot recommend enough.
